This wooden torii stands in the Takata Japanese and Zen Garden at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific. The garden is named for the Takata family, who owned and operated a Japanese tea garden in nearby Esquimalt from 1907 to 1942; two Japanese maples from that original garden, now over a century old, were transplanted here in 2008. The original garden site, in what is now Esquimalt Gorge Park, has a torii of its own.
