This torii stands in the Japanese garden at Kukuiolono Park, beside the site of the home sugar planter Walter D. McBryde built in 1907. McBryde dedicated the park to the public in 1911, placed the land in an irrevocable trust for public recreation, and left money in his will for its upkeep after his death in 1930. At some point between 2022 and 2026, the original, decaying torii was replaced.
