This white shinmei torii stands at the entrance to Maui Jinja. The shrine was completed in 1917 to serve the island's first-generation Japanese immigrants, and its doors were nailed shut through World War II. When its landlord ended the lease in 1954 to make way for Maui's first mall, the congregation had the building lifted by crane and towed two miles to its present site on Lipo Place.
