This torii stands on a small island in a lake within the Parque Centenário da Imigração Japonesa, inaugurated on 28 June 2008 for the centennial of Japanese immigration to Brazil. The park's attractions commemorate the integration of Brazilians and Japanese: an immigration museum, cherry trees planted among the palms, and a 31-meter replica of the Kasato Maru, the ship that brought the first Japanese immigrants to Brazil in 1908.
