Shepherd Canyon Torii

This torii marks a trailhead on Escher Drive, above Shepherd Canyon in the Oakland hills, and frames a view out over the canyon toward the bay. It stands a short, steep detour off the Montclair Railroad Trail, which follows the roadbed of the Sacramento Northern Railway that once carried passengers between Oakland and Chico. A 2011 walking-tour account described the gate as a recent addition.
