This torii on the bluffs of Shoreline Park was installed with its surrounding Japanese garden in 1998 to honor Santa Barbara's sister city of Toba, Japan. The garden was restored in 2023 by city staff, community volunteers, the Toba Sister City Organization, and Wade Nomura, one of its original designers.
