Two small torii stand in the pollinator garden at the east end of Guy Wicks Field on the University of Idaho campus, built in August 2025 by artist and professor David Roon with eighteen visiting students from Hiroshima University during an intensive short course on sustainability. The design deliberately adapts the traditional form rather than replicating it: cedar posts carry high-fired ceramic crossbars bearing bas-relief fish and mason bees, and at the public dedication each student hung on the gates a small clay sculpture representing their own concept of sustainability.
