This torii stands on the site of the former Seward Park Torii, given to Seattle by the city's Japanese American community in 1934. Designed by Murase Associates for the Friends of Seward Park, who raised $347,000 to build it, the gate pairs basalt columns from central Washington with beams cut from a single giant western red cedar harvested on Vancouver Island. It was completed in November 2020, though its community dedication was delayed until April 2022.
